Selva Negra, Matagalpa: cloud forest, coffee and trails
Selva Negra is a mountain eco-resort and coffee estate at kilometre 140 of the Matagalpa–Jinotega road. Its La Hammonia farm, humid forest and guided nature experiences offer several ways to explore this part of northern Nicaragua.
What you can experience
Combine a walk among cloud-forest vegetation with birdwatching or a guided coffee experience. The estate also advertises other activities, but their availability and inclusion differ by booking. Allow roughly half a day if you want a trail, a meal and one guided activity.

Mist, rain and wet ground can affect forest paths. Wear grippy footwear, carry water and a light waterproof layer, and follow the guidance of staff or guides on longer, evening or specialist activities.
